| Given that automatic litterboxes are a somewhat new item, a lot of brands may not be adequately designed. Certain litterboxes even throw fecal material around the room during self-cleaning. Actually, in line with remarks they leave on various websites, owners of some badly-designed automatic litterboxes really wished they hadn't acquired one. Though almost every product has the possibilities of malfunctioning, some are less likely to cause issues for their owners than others. Having used most of these items myself, and having read loads of feedback from users of various brands, I made a decision to recommend the ones below as the most useful currently available. 1) Litter Robot This brand is able to limit odors relatively well, and the motor is quiet while it is operating. One other major advantage is that it doesn't have a lot of on-going costs. The only things that need replacing on an ongoing basis are premium clumping litter and plastic bags from any grocery store. Even though the Litter Robot may seem to cost you quite a bit upfront, the low ongoing costs will save you a significant amount of money in the long run. Having used it myself, I'm very happy with the minimal maintenance, low ongoing costs, and the efficiency of the Litter Robot, and therefore highly recommend it to you. 2) Petsafe Simply Clean Another plus to the continuous cleaning is that smells are reduced to a minimum. The sole ongoing costs are common plastic bags and premium clumping litter. Best of all, it is available at a decent price tag. The only complaint from some customers is that while the litter box is functioning, the softer feces could break apart into pieces that are too small to get carried away by the conveyor, and end up staying inside the box until they are manually removed. For this reason, I would not recommend that you choose Petsafe if your kitty has soft fecal material. In spite of this little issue, the Petsafe Simply Clean is still recommended as the the advantages undoubtedly outweigh the disadvantages. Like a lot of the other brands of automatic litterboxes, ScoopFree springs into action a few minutes after the kitty leaves by using a rake to move the waste to a tray. What is interesting about this box is that it comes with litter crystals that may be used permanently ( i.e. does not need to be changed ) that absorb pee as well as dry out fecal material to regulate the odour. The only ongoing cost is for the expendable tray, which must be replaced whenever it becomes full. Furthermore, this litterbox does not call for a lot of human intervention. At the end, though, I would still recommend this litter box as being one of the finest ones available on the market today. 4) Cat Genie The Cat Genie works differently from the standard automatic litterbox. Instead of raking waste into a disposable container, it flushes the waste materials directly down your toilet after you connect it up to your home's piping system. As well, it does not need you to keep replacing the litter, as it uses exclusive granules that are permanent and that come with the machine when you purchase it. Although there is the extra trouble of having to connect it to your plumbing system at the beginning, the fact that it can dispose of the waste material and maintain its own cleanliness will save you a great deal more time down the road. Do keep in mind though that the Cat Genie does make use of a sani-solution for self-cleaning, and this will need to be ordered and replaced on a regular basis. Another negative to this litterbox is that, should it ever jam or otherwise malfunction in a way that would require the machine to be taken apart and reassembled, the process can be disgusting as you would need to manually clean half-dissolved fecal material. However , considering that almost all of the buyer feedback on this product has been constructive, this litter box is still recommended.
